I do hope you are going.

I am somewhat surprised to see that you don't sound more positive about your experience. As for the post that offended some, I don't remember it being very offensive. You probably offended very few and it certainly wasn't your intent so don't sweat it.

I really appreciated your first-hand account of the games and was very happy to tune into the women's marathon. It was an event I surely wouldn't have watched otherwise, but there I was cheering for you during the broadcast and then re-watching it online to see you finish.

Your performance was brave and inspiring. It showed that a person has no reason to give into the "I can't" way of thinking. I think your blog put a very human face on our modern Olympians. They are not fearless warriors of sport. They are regular people who are different not just because they posses superior physical ability, but because they commit themselves and push themselves harder than the rest of us.

Thanks,
TrevorTrevorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16552571931823934125noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8464770918251624055.post-60455368381384565662008-08-24T04:42:00.000+08:002008-08-24T04:42:00.000+08:00Dear Zuzana, regardless of mixed feelings you may h...Dear Zuzana,

regardless of mixed feelings you may have right now, you have made us proud out there opening your heart to all of us and showing us how to pursuit our dreams. I did get to see it live on streaming video, though.

Thank you for helping these great athletes, and thank you also for the respectful blog entry on racewalking. Our sport gets little respect these days, and the way you talked about these courageous athletes was marvelous. To walk farther than a marathon in those conditions is remarkable.

Thanks again for your blog, and maybe one day I'll "run" (walk!) into you in Salt Lake City.

Tammy, a racewalker :)

P.S. if anyone wants to see some great photos of the men's 50k, go to www.racewalk.com and click on the Olympic coverage under "Headline News".Tammyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00660036228543217178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8464770918251624055.post-54458925919408562532008-08-23T23:03:00.000+08:002008-08-23T23:03:00.000+08:00Thank you for your posting! Afterall, my mission as a teacher of English as a Second Language and as a teacher educator in training has been to promote appreciation of all languages and cultures. I want to thank you for your posting because it was a good reminder how humor does not often translate across cultures and how one linguist’s fascination with translations may have led me to an act that could be viewed as inappropriate. What was meant as a joke was, clearly, taken very seriously by you and perhaps by many other people from your culture. It was also a realization that this blog has reached an audience that it had never meant to reach and as such I need to be more careful about not insulting people from other cultures. I have decided to take the pictures off in order to show my respect for the Chinese culture. My experience here has been very positive and the last thing I wanted to do is to insult a Chinese person.

PS: I would disagree with your evaluation of Americans as being bad tourists. Cultural generalizations can be perceived as similarly disrespectful.Zuzana Tomashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11334448235247687014noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8464770918251624055.post-52008771335527118562008-08-23T05:48:00.000+08:002008-08-23T05:48:00.000+08:00Enough with the pictures and commentary from the F...Enough with the pictures and commentary from the Forbidden City.
